Acinetobacter species other than A. baumannii: prevalence in infections in hospitalized patients, identification and antibiotic resistance.. Acinetobacters non-baumannii

Species belonging to the genus Acinetobacter can cause various infections in humans. The most common and at the same time the most studied species is A. baumannii. Other Acinetobacter species are less often isolated from humans. Their routine identification and differentiation is often difficult, especially for the A. calcoaceticus-baumannii complex species. This project includes consecutive non-duplicate (one per patient) clinical isolates of Acinetobacter spp. other than A. baumannii (non-baumannii Acinetobacter) collected from hospitalized patients within the frame of national sentinel surveillance study of antimicrobial resistance in Russia in 2016-2022. The project aims at assessing: i) the prevalence of non-baumannii Acinetobacter spp. in infections in hospitalized patients; ii) the performance of MALDI-TOF MS methods for their identification at species level in comparison with the reference rpoB sequencing method; and iii) antibiotic resistance and occurrence acquired carbapenemases in these species.
