NHERI Impact 2020, Multi-hazard Research to Make a More Resilient Nation

The NHERI Impact 2020 book is a 70-page collection of illustrated articles detailing research in the field of natural hazards engineering — all of which took place at one of the 12 NSF-funded NHERI network facilities. The book features a range of NSF-funded projects that mitigate structural and societal damage from earthquakes, hurricanes and windstorms, storm surge, flooding and tsunami waves. Topics include centrifuge, wind tunnel, shake table and real-time hybrid simulation testing; soil behavior tests; insights on wind and tsunami wave behavior; non-destructive infrastructure testing, post-disaster reconnaissance, and simulation software tools. Article authors are notable faculty researchers and industry consultants from around the country, all leveraging NHERI’s shared-use facilities and working toward creating a more resilient civil infrastructure. Readers will learn about NSF Convergence research, extreme events research, and the social science components of natural hazards research.
