Identification and molecular characterization of Actinobacillus lignieresii isolated from sheep in Canada by nanopore whole genome sequencing. Actinobacillus lignieresii

Actinobacillus lignieresii is seen primarily in cattle causing tumorous abscesses of the tongue commonly known as wooden tongue; however, it can cause sporadic infection of the lips and cheeks in sheep. It is sometimes challenging to differentiate this organism from other Actinobacillus species using current traditional biochemical testing, MALDI ToF, or 16S rDNA PCR. There is also very limited information on the genomic characteristics of A. lignieresii isolated from sheep. That's why we performed long-read nanopore whole genome sequencing to identify and genotypically characterize these isolates.
