Assessing effect of weather conditions on journey to and outcome of emergency obstetric and newborn care in Benin City, Nigeria

This pilot study aims to adapt and deploy a data collection that captures the roles and influence of weather conditions on women’s care-seeking journeys for facility-based childbirth care and outcome in urban low- and middle-income country settings. There are two objectives: to journeys of pregnant women to care and outcomes of care to understand women’s experiences and needs during travel and referral to receive EmONC under different weather conditions, and to generate insights from and inform the design and methodology of a large-scale upcoming grant proposal intended to comprehensively examine climate-induced delays to care around the critical time of childbirth.
