The current Dataset is related with the task 2.3 for Geo-Morphological and Topographical analyses for the Lip3D project (N. 101173974). Research was conducted mainly on the geology, geomorphology and topography of the sites. Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and GIS point mapping were the result of the Deliverable 2.2. Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) as well as Digital Surface Models (DSMs) and Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) have become an essential tool in cultural heritage and archaeology, allowing scientists to explore landscapes in unprecedented ways. DEMs can reveal hidden topography such as ancient earthworks, mounds, road systems, or terraces that are not readily apparent on or under the ground. Digital Models have enabled site and feature detection in large scale as well, enabling archaeologists to pinpoint and map features without intruding the ground. Besides detection, DEMs are also capable of bringing valuable insights to the compatibility of the archaeological sites with the environment. By analyzing slope, elevation, and relative position to water sources, we can rebuild early patterns of settlement, agricultural practices, and transportation routes. They are also useful for conservation purposes as they can pinpoint areas where erosion, flood, or human entry is likely to occur, permitting conservation efforts to be targeted. When combined with 3D modeling techniques, DEMs enable the creation of highly resolved visualizations of landscapes and cultural sites, benefitting research, public engagement, and virtual reconstructions.
