Association between vaginal microbiota and high-risk human papilloma virus-infected women in China

In this manuscript, we reported that differences in the vaginal microbiota and diversity between patients with HPV infection and those without HPV, with the main differential genera being Lactobacillus-iners, Prevotella, and Streptococcus. The vaginal microbiota was also found to be age-related, with the vaginal microbiota of women over 45 years of age highly similar to that of postmenopausal women. This suggests that early intervention should be taken for the older population infected with HPV to block disease progression. In addition, we found that L. iners and Enterococcus may help clear HPV persistent infections, which may provide new insights for clinical management of persistent HPV infections.
