VPRS 8840 Estimates Sub-Committee Inquiry Files

This series comprises the documentation collected or created by the Estimates Sub-Committee of the Economic and Budget Review Committee VA 3138.The Sub-Committee was established under Section 4 of the Parliamentary Committees (Amendment) Act 1989 and comprised no less than four members of the Economic and Budget Review Committee. Its functions were defined in the Act as to inquire into and report to the Parliament:* on the annual Estimates of Receipts and Payments or other Budget Papers and any additional or supplementary Estimates of Receipts and Payments presented to the Assembly and the Council* on the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of the administration of particular programs and terms of expenditure contained in Appropriation or Supply Bills or on any other matter arising out of the estimates.A range of documents was either created or collected by the Sub-Committee in the course of each inquiry. Although the range of documents created per inquiry will vary, the following broad categories of documents were generally created during all or most of them:-Background papers comprising copies of printed material, reports etc gathered by the Sub-Committee in the course of initial research into the matter to be investigated.Correspondence files relating to either the actual investigation or organisational aspects of the inquiry.Submissions tended by individuals or organisations during the investigation stating their views on the issues concerned. Some submissions were also received in response to public hearings or issue of the final report.Transcripts of public hearings which must be held as part of each inquiry. Copies of the transcripts, which were forwarded to the various participants for amendments or corrections are also included.Reports including the final printed copy as presented to Parliament containing the Sub-Committee's findings.
