In the present study we used transcriptomics to study gene expression profiles in gills in response to fresh water and sea water exposure among populations of freshwater prickly sculpin (Cottus asper) sampled from coastal rivers, coastal lakes, and interior lakes of British Columbia that differ in salinity and their inferred time since isolation from the marine environment.
