The urgency to move towards a circular economy necessitates the re-investment of bio-based residues into agricultural lands, with undesirable side-effects. We assessed the GWP, nutrient transformation, response in soil microorganisms, and crop production as a function of bio-based residue-amendments (with broad C:N) in two soil types (sandy loam and clay soils). Our results show that although soil properties strongly affect the bacterial community composition, residue type, independent of C:N ratio, elicits a stronger response in the functioning of these communities with respect to the GHG emission/GWP. Neutral effect was observed on crop production and GWP after amendments with specific residues.
