资源简介:
Photograph of a painted portrait of Jose Antonio Carrillo, [s.d.]. Carrillo is shown from his torso to his head and is looking slightly to the right. He is wearing a dark jacket, dark vest, dark tie and a lightly-colored shirt with a pin at center. He has frizzy dark hair and thick sideburns.; Carillo was born in San Francisco on April 11, 1796, and died in Santa Barbara in 1862. He was very much involved in California politics. He was alcalde of Los Angeles, a member of Diputavion, and a member of Congress. As first vocal of the Diputacion, he would have been governor ad interim in 1835 instead of Castro but was attending Congress in Mexico. He was lieutenant of militia under Castro, comandante de escuadron. As second in command to Flores, he defeated Mervine in the fight at the Dominguez Rancho on October 8, 1946. He signed the Treaty of Cahuenga as Mexican Commissioner, ending the war in California. In 1849, he was a member of the Constitutional Convention. Don Jose Antonio was a man of great natural abilities and generous impulses, with a remarkable power for winning friends. A little more principle would have made him the foremost man in California. His first wife was Estefana Pico, sister of Pio Pico, and his second wife was her sister, Jacinta.
