A new, large Permian Parelmoidae (Insecta, Megasecopteromorpha, Diaphanopterodea) found in Shanxi Province (China)

The Parelmoidae is an insect family belonging to the extinct order Diaphanopterodea, itself belonging to the larger taxon Megasecopteromorpha. Although generally rare, representatives of this family are a typical component of Permian environments, and more particularly in the Cisuralian, with occurrence in classical localities such as Obora, Elmo & Midco, and Chekarda. Here we describe a new Parelmoidae, Grandelmoa jingqii n. gen., sp. nov. known from a well-preserved, isolated wing discovered from a new locality, namely the Zhiyu Village (Shanxi Formation; Shanxi Province, China). Its wing venation is best explained by a translocation (as it is, of MP branches onto CuA), a phenomenon yet rarely documented among palaeopteran taxa. The new species occurs to be, by a small amount, the largest Permian Diaphanopterodea known to date.

## Description of the data and file structure

The dataset contains four RTI (Reflectance Transformation Imaging) files of the whole right forewing and its basal part of the fossil insect specimen CNU-DIA-SS-2024001 (Zhiyu Village, China), holotype of *Grandelmoa jingqii* Xu, Yang, Oyama, Ren & Béthoux sp. nov. in this study.

The RTI files (CNU-DIA-SS-2024001a_base.rti, CNU-DIA-SS-2024001a.rti, CNU-DIA-SS-2024001b_base.rti, and CNU-DIA-SS-2024001b.rti) composing this dataset were derived from 4 different sets of 42 (side a base), 54 (side a), 42 (side b base), and 42 (side b) photographs obtained using a light dome of about 30 cm in diameter and equipped with 42, 54, 42, and 42 LEDs, respectively.
