Background The Database of State Policies Affecting Marriage is maintained by the Urban Institute, a social and economic policy research center. This database provides information on tax and transfer programs that vary by state and relate to living arrangements such as marriage or cohabitation. The Database includes the following tax and transfer programs: Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), child support, food stamps, federal and state income taxes, Medicaid, State Ch ildren's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), WIC, childcare subsidy, and subsidized housing. User Functionality Users can select a state and variables within a tax or transfer program pertaining to marriage and cohabitation status. Data can be printed and downloaded into Microsoft Excel. A brief description of each program is included in the database description. Data Notes The database was last updated in November, 2006. The website does not indicate when the database will be updated next. Data sources include: federal income tax liability, state income tax liability, TANF, Medicaid/SCHIP, food stamps, WIC, public and subsidized housing, and Childcare and Development Fund (CCDF)-funded childcare subsidie(many sources come from 2003).
