Number of licenses released by the Surfing Federation in France 2016-2019

The French Surfing federation counted over 77,000 licenses and other titles of participation (OTP) issued in 2019. Despite the fact that this sport was only recognized as an Olympic Sport in 2015, the number of licenses issued by its main regulating body in France soared between 2016 and 2019. In 2016, 17,000 new licenses and 5,000 OTP were issued, while two years later, this figure had already passed the 70,000 mark. This trend clearly indicated that this sport became increasingly popular in France, in spite of a small decrease in the number licenses issued between 2017 and 2018.
