Photograph of Charlotta Bass preparing to light one of the candles on the birthday cake as the Independent Progressive Party (IPP) of California celebrates its second anniversary. The man in the center is Edward Mosk, an attorney from Los Angeles who played an active role in organizing the IPP. Reuben Borough, another party activist, stands on the left. IPP was formed on June 15, 1948, when the Progressive Citizens of America, Southern California chapter, merged with the Independent Progressive Party of California. The newly merged party backed Henry Wallace's presidential campaign in 1948.
