New Mexico MODIS LAI Image Product

The thematic, 16-bit image represents the Leaf Area Index (LAI) for New Mexico, for the eight days ending on the date in the filename (for example, lai06092000 is an 8-day composite ending on 9 June, 2000). This image was developed from the MODerate resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data product MOD15. MODIS is on board the TERRA-AM satellite. MOD15 products are created by the MODIS Science Team for an 8-day interval at a 1-kilometer spatial resolution. The values represent LAI, which is percentage of one-sided leaf area per unit ground area. The image has been atmospherically corrected and is used as an input into models to generate net primary productivity. Actual data values can be obtained by multiplying the image value by 0.1.
