EVALUATION OF PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY APPLICATION IN TISSUE REPAIR ON THE DORSUM OF RAT TONGUES

Traumatic oral ulcers are common lesions and the search for treatments that accelerate the healing process is a constant interest of the scientific community. Photodynamic Therapy (aPDT) has as its basic principle the eradication of microorganisms, which, consequently, favors tissue repair. The objective of this study was to evaluate clinically and histologically the effect of aPDT on tissue repair in the dorsum of the tongue of rats. Material and Methods: A total of 45 male Wistar rats underwent a standardized ulcer on the dorsum of the tongue with a 5 mm diameter punch and were randomly divided in three groups: Control (G1), Laser photobiomodulation - LPBM (G2) and aPDT (G3). Euthanasia was performed and the evaluation of inflammatory caracteristcs were performed in sections stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin, and characterization of total collagen were performed with sections with Red Sirius. Histomorphometric analyzes of the percentage of total collagen, the distance from the basal layer to the epithelial surface and the thickness of the stratum corneum were performed.
