Data for the article "Assessing and Comparing the Coverage of Publications of Italian Universities in OpenCitations"

These are the data produced for the analysis described in the article "Assessing and Comparing the Coverage of Publications of Italian Universities in OpenCitations". This study evaluates the coverage and citation representation of publications recorded in the Current Research Information Systems (CRIS), all instances of the IRIS software platform, of six Italian universities within OpenCitations. Using persistent identifiers (DOIs, PMIDs, and ISBNs) specified in the IRIS installations involved, we matched the publication recorded in OpenCitations Meta and extracted the corresponding citation links from the OpenCitations Index. In particular, the present datasets enabled us to answer the following research questions (RQs): What is the coverage in OpenCitations of the publications listed in the IRIS installations of Italian Universities? How many citations are available in OpenCitations that involve, either as the citing entity or as the cited entity, the publications in such IRIS installations? Which types of publications are not covered in OpenCitations? The dataset contains several folders, one for each university involved. Each folder contains the following sub-directories: iris_in_oc_meta contains basic bibliographic information of the IRIS publication recognised in OpenCitations Meta; iris_in_oc_index contains all the citations extracted from OpenCitations Index that involve any of the IRIS publications included in iris_in_oc_meta; iris_no_pid contains basic bibliographic information of the IRIS publications that do not specify any of the PIDs (i.e. DOI, PMID, ISBN) necessary for mapping them with the entries in OpenCitations Meta; iris_not_in_meta contains basic bibliographic information for IRIS publications with the requested PIDs that were not recognised in OpenCitations Meta. In addition, the archive contains two additional files: logs, which contains the printed logs of the process executed to obtain the aforementioned data; Mapping_IRIS_MIUR.xlsx, which maps the IRIS publication types with the national categories defined by the Italian Ministry of University and Research.
