资源简介:
This series tracks the movements of the papers being submitted for the decision of the Governor-in-Council. It records the date of approval by the Governor-in-Council, and the location of where the papers were sent subsequently. As a consequence of the papers being returned to various divisions of the department, the papers referred to in the registry were not collated into a single series. Correspondence or file numbers and departmental divisions should be noted when attempting to locate specific papers. More research into the correspondence system of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey (VA 538) is required for this to be carried out effectively. In the majority of cases, Orders-in-Council sent to the Chief Clerk form part of VPRS 863 Orders-in-Council.The register records the Order-in-Council number (EC number), the date of the paper's submission to the Executive Council, the nature of the paper submitted, date of approval by the Governor-in-Council, date of entry in the Government Gazette and where the papers were returned to. In the late 1800's the name of the certifying officer of the department to whom the papers were returned and date of return were provided in the Decisions column. This was later refined to a combination of listed division names (such as Rabbits Br., instead of VD - Vermin Destruction) and abbreviated forms of the division or branch of the Department of Crown Lands and Survey to which the papers were returned. Abbreviations include CC for Chief Clerk, OB for Occupation Branch (usually with the location of the branch provided as well), LS for Lands Sales, D for Deeds, SG for Surveyor General, VS for Village Settlement, CB for Correspondence Branch and so on.The register number relates to the Order-in-Council annual single number, which was written in the top left corner of the file's cover page, and began with the initials EC (Executive Council). Files relating to entries without a correspondence number listing may be found within VPRS 863 (Orders-in-Council). Files relating to entries with correspondence numbers have been filed elsewhere.Topics covered by this register include the issue, revocation, forfeiture, and variation of licences and leases, land sales, appointments of employees, appointment and resignation of Church trustees, proclamations (of townships and roads, for example), specification of sites reserved for public buildings (such as water reserves, police reserves, cemeteries, shire offices, cattle yards, infant asylums, churches, show yards, and similar), and reports (such as Nightsoil and Manure report). The Approval Date can be used to locate items in the Minutes of the Executive Council (VPRS 1080) as they relate to the dates of specific Executive Council meetings. From 1933, VPRS 14003 - Business Sheets - Agenda Recommendations replaced this series as the register of EC numbers.
