Complete genome of Mesotoga infera strain VNs100. Mesotoga infera strain VNs100 genome

The mesophilic (optimum growth at 45°C) anaerobic bacterium Mesotoga infera belonging to the order Thermotogales was isolated from an underground gas storage water sample containing a mixture of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene (BTEX)(Ben Hania et al., 2013). This heterotrophic saccharolytic bacterium representing the second described species of the genus uses elemental sulfur as terminal electron acceptor for oxidizing its substrates. Here we report the draft genome sequence of strain VNs100T that represent a valuable material to study its metabolic capabilities and to evaluate its biotechnological potential in bioremediation of polluted environments.
