US Army National Guard Cultural Resources Planning Level Survey - Indiana

In March 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the Indiana Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology in Indianapolis, and Camp Atterbury in Edinburgh to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on Camp Atterbury, the only federally owned or supported Indiana Army National Guard (INARNG) facility included in this project. Information from this research is reported in this document and includes the history of cultural investigations on Camp Atterbury and a list of historic buildings recorded within facility boundaries.
Additionally, historic contexts and the potential utility of predictive models are discussed, and a list is provided of Native American tribes that may be culturally affiliated with archaeological collections recovered from Camp Atterbury. To date, numerous cultural resource surveys have been conducted on Camp Atterbury, identifying 637 cultural properties and historic buildings. Seven of the properties are eligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places, 62 are potentially eligible, 565 are not eligible, and no determinations were made for three properties.
