A Case Study of In-Vivo Core Narrative Identification and Its Alignment with the Fear of Abandonment in Borderline Personality Disorder

This case study explores how a perceptive partner, outside of a clinical setting, intuitively identified the core fear of his partner with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). By stating "I am pathetic," he articulated the internalized self-critical narrative consistent with her behaviors and fear of abandonment. The partner with BPD's non-verbal reaction—rather than an expected "me too"—suggests that this core belief was deeply unconscious, yet powerful enough to drive her actions. This account, later clinically validated, demonstrates a profound link between a fragile sense of self and the fear of abandonment in BPD, highlighting how an empathetic, non-clinical approach can reveal the painful, underlying truths that govern a person's emotional life.
