BASSTA project-archive

This is an archive of the key documents from the RAAK PUBLIEK project BASSTA (2021–2023).The project focused on supporting municipalities and waste collection services in ensuring that households consistently separate their waste into different fractions such as paper, organic waste (GFT), and plastic. The aim was both to increase the amount of waste being separated and to reduce contamination within the separated fractions.The research was conducted by the research groups Circular Design & Entrepreneurship and Psychology for a Sustainable City. This interdisciplinary research focused on high-rise and multi-unit residential buildings, where improving waste separation has proven particularly challenging due to limited space for indoor waste bins and the distance to outdoor collection points.The project was carried out in collaboration with the participating municipalities, public waste organizations (ROVA, Rijkswaterstaat, NVRD, MilieuCentraal, VVM), and specialized consultancies (Giraf Results, De Afvalspiegel).This folder contains:WP1: an analysis and diary study on household waste practices.WP3: the design and testing of interventions, including container posters and a starter kit.The final results, including the final publication.Relevant project management files.
