Census of Manufactures, 1977: Geographic Area Series

<p>The Census of Manufacturers is part of the Economic Census series. Its universe consists of all establishments engaged in manufacturing and comprises approximately 350,000 establishments. File 1 contains summary statistics on the number of manufacturing establishments, employment, payroll, number of production workers, cost of materials, value of shipments, value added by manufacturer, inventories, and capital expenditures for plant and equipment. File 2 consists of data for industry groups and industries on many of the categories in File 1. Both files provide comparative statistics for 1972. The Geographic Area series contains information for States, standard metropolitan statistical areas (SMSA), standard consolidated statistical areas (SCSA), counties and cities with 450 manufacturing employees or more.</p>
