A stone slab or ceramic plate is described, which is stabilized with the aid of fibre-coated stabilizing strips which are applied beneath the edges of the stone slab or are incorporated beneath the edges into the stone slab. The strips are characterized in that, for reasons of material optimization, they have an arrangement, optimized for the particular loading case on the top side and underside, of the fibre direction as a tension belt and are therefore embodied with a unidirectional scrim, and these fibres on the top and bottom lie as close as possible to the particular surface of the stone slab to be stabilized. The tension belt has in this case preferably a height or thickness which is greater than half the thickness of the stone slab to be stabilized, and a width which is appropriate for the overall load under the bending load that arises in each case. The surprising effect is that the entire slab or plate can be bent without transverse cracks occurring in the middle.
