We evaluated a homologous Cpx envelope stress response system in the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa for its roles in stress signaling and surface sensing, an important initiating cue for biofilm formation during chronic infection. As part of this study we used RNASeq to characterize an adaptive mutant of P. aeruginosa PAO1 that confers constitutive activation of the Cpx response, PAO1 cpxS-T163P.
