Solomon's Real Blade and the Illusion of Non-Lethality: Reconstructing a Sovereign Model of Judgment Beyond Moral and Psychological Readings

This paper proposes an original and radical reconstruction of Solomon’s Judgment—one that departs from moral, religious, and psychological interpretations that have dominated for three millennia. Contrary to the popular belief that Solomon’s order to divide the living child was merely a symbolic or psychological tactic, this study argues that the king was fully willing and institutionally empowered to carry out a real execution. This sovereign readiness to “bring down the blade” constitutes the true essence of his wisdom. The second central argument is that Solomon’s judgment exposes a universal human illusion: the belief that “you are not necessarily going to die.” This pervasive psychological bias—an optimistic survival instinct embedded in human cognition—creates predictable behavioral divergence under mortal threat. The false mother’s reaction is not simply a sign of malice, but an expression of the gambler’s bias: the belief that the sovereign will not actually execute the order. The true mother’s collapse of resistance reveals authentic responsibility under the collapse of this illusion. By framing Solomon’s Judgment as an instance of sovereign decision-making under extreme conditions, this paper establishes a new analytical model that combines political philosophy, behavioral psychology, legal reasoning, and ancient Near Eastern sovereignty. The result is a reinterpretation that elevates Solomon’s wisdom from literary anecdote to a foundational theory of judgment.
