This study focuses on the assessment of physical presence of bacteria and their metabolites on microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) of 1020 carbon steel in marine environments. Lab-scale experiments were conducted in the presence of 1020 carbon steel coupons and seawater from Key West (FL, USA) inoculated with Marinobacter isolate J5B1. The bacterial profile of corrosion deposits and biofilm on 1020 carbon steel coupons and bulk liquid (seawater) samples were analyzed by 16S rDNA sequencing.
