资源简介:
The modern sedimentation regime at the snout of the Ferrar Glacier was investigated for comparison with the upper sediments cored in the CIROS-2 hole and to determine the modern sedimentation processes on the McMurdo Sound sea floor. Seafloor sediments were taken near the outfall of two meltwater channels on the Ferrar Glacier snout to compare with sediments from the CIROS-2 core. A grid pattern was established caround the channel mouth in order to sample any areal changes of the sea floor sediments. Samples were recovered from depths between 257m and 197m and the lithology of the sediments was examined. The edge of the Ferrar Glacier was surveyed (near the two meltwater channels) to record ice edge changes. Sampling was attempted in water <100 m deep at Mt Barnes and Delta 4, Ferra fjord to compare with samples from deeper water in New Harbour.
