Whole genome and transcriptome sequencing of Asian green mussel, Perna viridis

Asian green mussel, Perna viridis is an important species for mariculture in Asia Pacific. In Indian waters, it is cultured along southwest coast of India. The species is rich nutritionally. In addition, several bioactive compounds have been extracted from this species. The culture of Perna viridis is beset with bacterial and parasitic diseases recently. The chromosome level genome assembly and transcriptome profile generated using hybrid sequencing methods will be a valuable resource for further genetic improvement programs in this species. Further, gene combinations and pathways important in secretion of bioactive compounds can be identified for subsequent manipulation.
