Digital Archive from Archaeological Works at Westley Middle School, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, July-October 2018

This collection comprises images, spreadsheets, and CAD data from an archaeological evaluation, excavation, and metal detecting survey at Westley Middle School, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. This work was undertaken by Suffolk Archaeology (now trading as the Suffolk office of Cotswold Archaeology) between July 2018 and October 2018. Following the positive results of the evaluation in July 2018 which indicated the presence of scattered Roman activity, the excavation appears to have located the site of a Late Roman structural complex. A potential rural Roman villa complex with at least three posthole structures, three oven/kilns and a well were uncovered, alongside a partially seen ditched enclosure. An apparent late Roman dispersed hoard including gold and silver coins dating to the 4th to very early 5th century was also recovered from surface deposits.
