Use of mobile information technology for real-time monitoring and mapping of polio campaign coverage in Iraq

Mobile information technology may support the
collection of standardised data in a timely manner to inform and improve
decision-making for polio programming and response. We utilised mobile
smartphones to collect and map data from more than ten thousand households
during six national and subnational rounds of polio immunisation in Iraq
between April to September 2014. The combined results of household post-campaign
monitoring surveys across all six campaigns are presented here, together with
discussion of the application of mobile information technology for polio
campaign monitoring and mapping in a real-time setting.
