Year-round microbial communities in treatment peatlands

Two treatment peatlands (TPs) treating mining-affected waters near a gold mine in northern Finland were sampled during the course of one year to assess the seasonal variability of peat microbial communities. Samples were taken from surface (0-10 cm) and deeper (60-70 cm) peat. RNA was extracted for 16S amplicon-sequencing to assess the active microbial community. No pronounced seasonal variations were detected in the microbial community composition in both sites and depths.
