资源简介:
In May 1998, St. Louis District personnel visited the Maine Army National Guard (MEARNG) Headquarters and the Maine Historic Preservation Commission in Augusta to research archaeological and historic buildings survey work conducted on eight Army National Guard facilities in the state: Auburn, Bangor, Bog Brook, Caswell, Gardiner, Hollis, and Plymouth Training Sites, and Camp Keyes. This document reports the history of cultural investigations on these federally owned or federally supported facilities, lists archaeological sites recorded within facility boundaries, discusses historic contexts and sensitivity assessments, and provides a list of Native American tribes that may be culturally affiliated with archaeological collections recovered from the MEARNG facilities. To date, one prehistoric archaeological site has been recorded on Bog Brook Training Site. This site has been determined as eligible to the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Thirty three historic buildings, which have been determined ineligible, are recorded for Camp Keyes. Ten of these may be eligible as a historic district. One prehistoric archaeological site has been recorded for Hollis Training Site, but its NRHP eligibility has not been determined. The extent, nature, and location of archaeological collections recovered from work conducted on MEARNG facilities will be determined in the second phase of this project, to be completed during Fiscal Year 1999.
