Fungal composition of California honey bee gut microbiota over 24 weeks

Data derived from a total of n=594 adult nurse bee samples. Briefly, hindguts (including the rectum but not ileum portion of the intestinal tract) were dissected from individual bees, then DNA extracted and pooled in biological triplicate. Profiling of fungal communities was achieved via targeted amplification of the ITS region using the established ITS1f (5-CTTGGTCATTTAGAGGAAGTAA-3) and ITS2 (5-GCTGCGTTCTTCATCGATGC-3) primer set. Processing of amplicon libraries was conducted at the London Regional Genomics Centre (Robarts Research Institute, London, ON, Canada) and sequencing was performed on the MiSeq Illumina platform adapted for 2x300 bp paired-end V3 chemistry.
