Detailed determination of media usage, the search for information and
leisure behavior of participants in the BTX field experiment.
Topics: 1. written survey about furnishing of the household with
equipment for information and entertainment: possession of
entertainment electronics devices; magazines received regularly;
description of telephone use and amount of telephone bill; use of
opportunities to order by telephone; orders with mail-order firms;
frequency of contacts with authorities; reason for the acquisition of a
BTX device; receipt of the ´BTX Magazine´; interest in use of selected
BTX possibilities; planned vacation dates in the current year;
residential status.
2. oral survey of members of the household 14 years old and older:
detailed recording of different media such as e.g. radio, television,
magazines, reference books, catalogs, telephone books, street maps,
classified advertisements and free advertisers; classification of the
importance of sources of information in the area of favorable shopping
opportunities, health questions, sport news, recipes, vacation offers,
consumer news, advice in financial matters, real estate offers and
cultural events; professional and private use of communication devices;
expected utility of the BTX equipment for the respondent; scale of
interest in BTX and reasons for this interest; estimated costs and
frequency of use of BTX; familiarity of teletext; contacts with
friends; political interest.
Demography: age; sex; marital status; religious denomination; school
education; occupational training; occupation; occupational position;
employment; local residency; memberships.
Also encoded was: date of interview.
