National biodiversity data for ecosystem accounting in Australia: 1990 to 2022

This collection comprises biodiversity data for Australia for use in national ecosystem accounts. The data provided are spatial data and summary tables of predicted status of different biodiversity features across Australia over time. Data are provided separately for two types of biodiversity features: (1) nationally listed threatened species; (2) all native species in broad taxonomic groups (vascular plants, birds, reptiles, fungi). The status of all biodiversity features has been estimated annually, for each year from 1990 to 2022.\n\nThe data are generated using a habitat-based biodiversity assessment approach, where expected spatial patterns of biodiversity in reference condition are combined with a time series of spatial patterns of in ecosystem condition. For all biodiversity features, annual patterns of expected (or potential) status were derived by combining remotely sensed data with information on inferred reference patterns in biodiversity (pre-European), incorporating field observation data.\n\nThese data align with other data prepared for Australia under the National Ecosystem Accounting Project, including for ecosystem extent, ecosystem condition and ecosystem services.\n\nThe biodiversity data comprise spatial raster layers and summary tables of predicted status of different biodiversity features across Australia over time.
