The Enigma of "Nothing": A Philosophical Analysis of a Silent Gaze
收藏资源简介:
Abstract This essay undertakes a philosophical analysis of an apparently trivial scene: a subject who, instead of watching television, fixes their gaze upon the texture of the carpet on the floor, and when asked, "What are you thinking about?" experiences a sudden rupture in their train of thought and responds only with the word "Nothing." In four sections—phenomenological, ontological, Continental philosophy, and intersubjective/ethical dimensions—this writing examines this moment not merely as a clinical disorder, but as a mirror reflecting the crisis of subjectivity in the modern age. The essay demonstrates how the collapse of natural perceptual action, the freezing of existential time, the rupture from linguistic identity, and the pressure of the Other's gaze all converge within this single word "Nothing." The conclusion is that this "Nothing" is saturated with an unspoken "Everything," and understanding it not only opens new horizons for comprehending human suffering, but also challenges the ethical responsibility of the questioner when confronting the suffering subject.
