Oyster and environmental 16S microbiome

Young oysters of Pacific oyster Magallana (Crassostrea) gigas are regularly impacted by summer mortalities since 2008, caused by the infection by the Ostreid herpesvirus 1 (OsHV-1) when seawater temperature increases in summer. Adult oysters rather suffer from a vibriosis caused by the bacterial primary pathogen Vibrio aestuarianus francensis. To study the dynamics of the infection, we regularly sampled the young oysters, their direct and indirect aquatic and sedimentary environment during 10 months. Those samples were later amplified with V3-V4 primers and sequenced with Illumina Mi-Seq.This study is the first one to monitor the distribution of a general dysbiosis involved in oysters mortality in the environment.
