DNA collected from sediments and water column around two shipwrecks in the Gulf of Mexico as a part of "Microbial stowaways: Exploring shipwreck microbiomes in the deep Gulf of Mexico" project supported by NOAA Ocean Exploration and Research. This study investigates the impact of historic shipwrecks on microbial community and structure on the seafloor.
