Monitoring of water quality and quantity in the Pond Inlet watershed, 2017-2020 (NGMP ID EC55)

The general objective of the monitoring was to develop an integrated monitoring program of source water used by Mittimatalirmiut (residents of Pond Inlet). By integrated we meant to combine the use of remote sensing with field data to better describe the quality and quantity of the water and land within the watersheds using multiple parameters. Our integrated approach aimed to implement multi-indicator decision tools to further guide local and regional water policies for source protection. This project builds on a 3 year pilot project where we develop local research capacity and leadership in the community of Pond Inlet. Tim Anaviapik Soucie was the originator and is still acting as principal investigator and the local leader of a young research team located in Pond Inlet. With the support of the community members, the elders, and academic experts, our objective was to further the development of this unique community-driven research framework. Our project incorporates local knowledge and the contribution of a great number of elders and land users.
