Kenaf (Hibiscus cannabinus ) is an important fiber crop for papermaking and weaving. Since no mitochondrial genome sequence has been published for Kenaf. In this study, we report the first complete mitochondrial genome sequence of kenaf. We also analyze the mitochondrial genomic sequence and structural features and make a comparison with other angiosperms. This sequence represents a major circular molecule that is 569,914 bp in length. The kenaf mitochondrial genome possesses most of the common characters of higher plant mitochondrial genomes and maintains essential protein-coding genes and tRNA genes. Further and more importantly, this study could bring more desirable information for better understanding the genetic transformation, genomic breeding for the utility of cytoplasm male sterility.
