The mutants of the nematode C. elegans that have increased expression of the gene rips-1 (JSJ14, JSJ15, and JSJ16) and the mutants (JSJ17 and JSJ18) that fail to upregulate rips-1 even upon exposure to the reducing agent DTT were isolated in a forward genetic screen. The whole-genome sequencing of the mutants was carried out to identify the causative mutation.
