Antifungal Activity of turmeric extract on candida albicans in Atbra city

Abstract Background: Candidiasis caused by certain species of Candida called C.albicans may lead to Vaginal candidiasis, oral thrush, skin infection, and other disease. Traditional medicinal practice could provide new source of antifungal agents to treat antifungal resistant microbes in order to avoid the high cost and the side effects of medications. Aim: To evaluate the antifungal activity of Curcumin against C.albicans isolates . Materials and methods: This Experimental hospital-based case study was done in River Nile state, from July to September 2025 a total number of 56 selected yeasts isolates were enrolled in this study. Fungal strains were collected from different hospitalize patient and re- identified using conventional biochemical test. The antimicrobial activity of Curcumin was perform using agar diffusion technique. Results: Thirty of Candida albicans were identified. turmeric extract shows no and some antimicrobial activity against all isolates depend on the extract concentration. Turmeric extract inhibited between 81.8\% and 89\% of tested strains depending on concentration, with inhibition increasing to 83.6 - 90.9 %\ and 92.7 - 100\% at higher concentrations .
