The BCM-HGSC is sequencing the genome of the Sandfly vector Lutzomyia longipalpis. A draft genome sequence has been produced. Additionally, individuals of species L. longipalpis, L. intermedia, and L. migonei were sequenced for population genetic data. A sister project was performed by the Washington University Genome Sequencing Center on a different sandfly Phlebotomus papatasi. Both projects were funded by the NHGRI Large Scale Sequencing Program.
