The Situation of Mothers in 1964 (Lower Franconia)

The ´contact interviews´ of this investigation had two objectives:
1. To determine sociological, social-psychological and social-medical
values and
2. To gain respondents for a social-medical mass screening.

Topics: 1. Time demands for housework; current and earlier employment;
attitude to employment of women; priorities in raising children; love
of order; greatest concerns and demands as mother; household help;
recommendations to improve the situation of mothers; attitude to
child-raising advice centers, advice centers for mothers and marriage
advice centers; authority structure in parental family and decision
structure in one´s own family; conduct with differences of opinion;
interest in conversations with spouse and relationship with husband;
assumed concepts of husband of the role of women and personal
understanding of role of women (scale); general dreams and acquisition
goals; leisure activity of the two spouses; performing physically
difficult work, in particular during a pregnancy.

2. Point in time and reason for last visit to the doctor as well as
for last hospital stay; willingness to go to the doctor; trust in
doctor and general experience with doctors; description of one´s state
of health; consent with a medical check-up in the framework of this
project.

3. Miscellaneous: use of various means of transport; judgement on
one´s own economic situation; eating habits; size of household and
looking after a person in need of care; satisfaction with income;
installment payments; size of residence and moving frequency; prayer
practices; religiousness; membership in clubs or organizations.

Demography: age (classified); number of children; ages of children
(classified); religious denomination; school education; vocational
training; occupation; employment; professional career; household
income; composition of household; social origins.

Interviewer rating: social class and willingness of respondent to
cooperate; condition and type of residence; judgement on satisfaction
of respondent; city size.
