Register of Geographic Place Names (VICNAMES)

VICNAMES holds over 45,000 place names and over 200,000 road\r\nnames such as mountains, rivers, transport infrastructure, parks, reserves,\r\nforests, bounded localities, roads, streets and lanes.\r\n\r\nThe Register has the capacity to hold 342 separate feature types and 153\r\nindividual road types. Records within VICNAMES may have historical information\r\nattached, there are over 12,000 geographic features and road names that have\r\nhistorical information associated to them. VICNAMES as Victoria's register of\r\ngeographic place names forms part of the national gazetteer which is hosted by\r\nGeoScience Australia and updated yearly. Data from VICNAMES or the National\r\nGazetter maybe downloaded at any time.\r\n\r\n
