ChillsDB 2.0: Individual Differences in Aesthetic Chills Among 2,900+ Participants in Southern California

ChillsDB 2 is an extension of prior research developing a validated database of audiovisual aesthetic chills stimuli. The original ChillsDB study pioneered an ecologically-valid approach to identify chills-eliciting videos using social media mining. 204 candidate stimuli were tested on 600+ participants to validate a highly reliable subset for chills induction.The present dataset provides additional data on individual differences in chills responses from a sample of 2,937 participants residing in Southern California. Leveraging the validated ChillsDB stimuli, the current study exposed participants to randomized content and gathered questionnaires on personality traits, absorption tendencies, positive emotions, and demographics alongside detailed chills response data. State affect ratings and political orientation variables were also captured.This geographically focused dataset enables investigating how psychological, social, and biological factors relate to variability in aesthetic chills phenomena across a large and diverse sample from this specific region. The inclusion of validated stimuli from the original ChillsDB allows for controlled elicitation of chills experiences. The additional individual difference measures facilitate novel examinations into the predictors and correlates of chills responses.
