North American Jet Superposition Events within the NCEP Climate Forecast System Reanalysis Dataset during November–March 1979–2010

These files contain the time, location, and type of North American jet superposition events during November–March 1979–2010 within the NCEP Climate Forecast System Reanalysis dataset (https://doi.org/10.5065/D69K487J). The complete methodology used to identify these jet superposition events and to classify them into their respective event types is found in Winters et al. (2020; https://doi.org/10.1175/MWR-D-19-0353.1). There are five files contained within this dataset. Each file contains the details for those jet superposition events that constitute (1) polar dominant, (2) hybrid, (3) subtropical dominant, (4) eastern subtropical dominant, and (5) western subtropical dominant jet superpositions. For a description of each event type enumerated above, please refer to Winters et al. (2020; https://doi.org/10.1175/MWR-D-19-0353.1) Every row within a particular file provides the details for an individual jet superposition event at the time the polar and subtropical jets first superpose. The information contained in these rows obey the following format: Year, Month, Day, Hour Identifier, Event Latitude, Event Longitude, Number of Grid Points, Event Index, Event Type Identifier A description for each of the above variables are as follows: Year = Year of the jet superposition Month = Month of the jet superposition Day = Day of the jet superposition Hour Identifier = Hour of the jet superposition. 1.0 corresponds to 0000 UTC, 2.0 corresponds to 0600 UTC, 3.0 corresponds to 1200 UTC, and 4.0 corresponds to 1800 UTC Event Latitude = The latitude of the jet superposition Event Longitude = The longitude of the jet superposition Number of Grid Points = The number of grid points characterized by a jet superposition during this event Event Index = An index for the jet superposition event between 1–326 Event Type Identifier = Identifies the type of jet superposition event. 1000 corresponds to a polar dominant event, 2000 corresponds to a subtropical dominant event, and 3000 corresponds to a hybrid event.
