Iron-rich pelagic aggregates (iron snow) are formed in the water column of lakes through adsorption of inorganic and organic matter. Abundant iron snow harboring bacteria and interspecies aggregation mechanisms between key players were characterized. To fully profile taxonomies of the in-situ iron snow microbiome in the water column, we collected iron snow samples in 2017 and 2018. We further incubated iron snow microcosms under oxic and anoxic conditions and profile the bacterial dynamics over time.
