VPRS 92 Land and Immigration Receipts

Permitted under Regulations of 1848, this series contains receipts for money deposited with the Colonial Treasurer for the purchase of land. Money was to be used only for the purchase of land by public auction as provided for by Regulations of 1843 made under the Waste Lands Act 1842 and for purchase under the pre-emptive right granted by the Order-in-Council 1847.Money lodged in this way for 5 years with the Colonial Treasury could earn interest at the rate of 5% per annum during that time. Money was not to be returned except as credit for the purchase of land. Details given are the terms of the scheme, the amount lodged and the actual receipt given by the Sub-Treasurer. The deposit was also registered at the Survey Office.
